Tile selection is easier when you begin with the job the surface must do. A tile that looks beautiful on a showroom wall may not be appropriate for every floor, outdoor area or wet space. Identify the installation location before narrowing down colour, size and pattern.

For floors, consider expected foot traffic, cleaning routine, surface texture and the manufacturer's recommended applications. Wet areas need particular care: ask for documented slip-resistance information suitable for the intended use, and do not assume that a rough-looking surface is automatically safe. Outdoor areas may experience rain, heat and temperature changes, so confirm the product's suitability with the manufacturer.

For walls, weight, substrate, fixing method, tile dimensions and the installation system matter. Large-format tiles can require a flatter substrate and specific handling practices. In bathrooms and kitchens, the waterproofing system, grout, sealants and detailing around corners and penetrations are as important as the tile itself.

Order planning matters too. Measure the area carefully, account for cuts and breakage with the installer, and confirm the number of boxes before purchase. Keep product codes, shade and calibre details, batch information and a few spare tiles for future repairs. Tiles from different production batches may vary slightly.

Request the current technical sheet, cleaning guidance and warranty terms. View samples in the actual lighting where possible, because a finish can look different under warm indoor lights and daylight. Ask whether the quoted price includes delivery, unloading, adhesive, grout or installation; do not assume these are included.

The right choice balances appearance, performance, maintenance and budget. Product specifications and local site conditions should be checked before buying or installing. Contact The Tile Studio by Mukta to confirm current collections, samples and showroom arrangements.
